It is a bittersweet moment in the life of New Community Church. Our Student Pastor, John Smoot, is moving on after 2½ years of faithful ministry. We regret to see him go, but we also sense God’s calling on his life and ministry for his next steps. In his own words:
“I have had the privilege to see a lot of change here at the church. I’ve seen a transition of students and leaders. I’ve seen a transition of families both in and out with our Coast Guard; and I’ve seen a transition of staff members, including Rob Tucker as our lead pastor. Through all of these transitions, I have learned to love our students more and more. In a little less than a month, I will also be transitioning out of my position here and begin to focus more on my leadership with Open Door Mercy Home, in supporting the many Indian Orphans we sponsor. In order to do that, I must have Sundays available to setup at different churches and raise support. Nicole and I will be married in India this July, and hope to live there one day. Thank you to all of my students and the parents for allowing me to share Christ’s love and minister to you over the last few years.”
John’s last official Sunday will be June 14th and he will be dearly missed. We know that God will continue to use him in the years ahead. Please pray for him and Nicole as they seek God’s next steps.
